Protein granola is made with your favorite protein powder and egg white. The addition of the egg white helps to form large granola clusters!
I created this recipe a couple of years ago and finally got around to updating the post. When I remade the recipe, I remembered how delicious it was.
Seriously, I think this is my favorite granola recipe of all time! I've made two batches in less than one week.
Meal prep this granola to enjoy in yogurt bowls, as cereal with milk or just to munch on as a snack. I'll admit... lately, I've been grabbing a handful out of the pantry and eating it as is.

2 reasons why you'll love this recipe
- This granola recipe yields large granola clusters!
- The recipe only calls for three tablespoons of pure honey as an added sweetener. Most granola recipes contain ½ cup or more of added sweetener.
Ingredients in this recipe
- old fashioned rolled oats - I always recommend old fashioned rolled oats over quick oats for granola.
- chopped nuts of choice - Use your favorite nut or use a mix of nuts. Go NUTS! You could also use seeds instead. Pumpkin seeds would be great!
- vanilla protein powder - I used vanilla whey protein powder.
- ground cinnamon
- olive oil - You can also use avocado oil or melted coconut oil.
- egg white- Don't skip this. The egg white helps to create granola clusters.
- pure honey - You can also use pure maple syrup, but I love honey because of the way it caramelizes in the oven.
Expert Tips
Make sure you enjoy the taste of the protein powder you use!
Spread granola onto a baking sheet with parchment paper in aneven layer. This will allow it to cook evenly.
Baking the granola at 325 degrees F compared to 350 degrees F helps to achieve perfectly cooked granola.
Gently flip the granola halfway through. This will keep the granola from burning. Be careful not to break the clumps or you won't end up with any granola clusters.
Allow the granola to fullycool before enjoying. It willcrisp up as it cools.
You can use collagen peptides in place of the protein powder in this recipe. Replace the amount of protein powder with 2 scoops of collagen. I like using vanilla flavored collagen. I noticed that the granola can burn faster when using collagen so just keep an eye on it. I baked it for less time.
How long does homemade granola last?
Store the granola in an airtight container at room temperature for about 2 weeks or store in the freezer for up to 3 months.

What would you sub for egg whites to make vegan? Thx!

Hi Paula! You can try flax eggs, but I cannot guarantee the same texture as I never personally tried.

How much is a serving tho it doesn’t say??

I don't have the math done for that. I guess add all the ingredients (convert to grams) and then divide by the number of servings.

Ok, I know I’m a repeat-commenter but had to say again how much I love this recipe. I made it today with extra nuts and more Christmas-like spices:plus a few dried cherries after it cooled. It’ll be a part of a holiday goodie bag for my postal carrier and trash guys. Sure to be a hit. Thanks, Krista!Reply

I have made your protein granola 3 times so far and love it. Tried agave syrup once because I was out of honey which was great too. Also added nut butter instead of avocado oil once too. Shared your sight with my friends as well. So good! Thanks for so many great recipes.

Could you use Maple Syrup or coconut sugar instead of honey ?

I recommend using a liquid sweetener. Pure maple syrup should work fine.

Can I use Vital Proteins collagen powder instead of protein powder?

This should be fine but I recommend adding more sweetener if it's unflavored.

I added trilogy health seeds(flex, chia, and hemp) as I am breast feeding and wanted to add an additional boost for lactation(oats are great for it too) it’s in the oven now and I can’t wait to try it.Reply

Hi Krista - Have you tried to double the amount of protein in this before? Like double the protein powder or more egg whites? I'd be aiming to increase the protein without increasing the fat content.
Reply
krista
I'm not sure if you could double the protein without changing the texture or flavor.
Reply
Julie
Great taste but unfortunately I’ve tried over the years to like all different kinds of protein powders but they all hurt my stomach.
Is there anyway to leave the protein powder out and maybe just up the liquid egg whites ?Reply
krista
You will have to play around with the measurements a bit. If you increase the egg whites, you will need to add more oats otherwise the mixture will be too wet.

Love this recipe I make a double batch every week, however, I substitute walnut oil or grapeseed oil for the olive oil .Reply

I love the flavor and adding in the protein powder. However I never got any big chunks and followed the recipe exactly. I think next time I will double or triple the egg whites since it seemed to be far too dry to form clumps.
Reply
krista
Hmmm interesting. Not sure why the mixture would be dry. Maybe it's the type of protein powder. Make sure you check out the section labeled "Expert Tips."
